We will be starting at the Jester Park Equestrian Center. They are providing us with a great indoor facility so you can come in and warm up between 10 mile laps! November 23rd you will have a chance to see what you are made of, physically as well as mentally on this 10 mile looped course in the woods and open flats of Iowa. The 6th running of the Stuffed Turkey Endurance Races @ Jester Park, Granger, Iowa. 100% trail, small rolling hills, a good stretch of flat which could be fast, could be extremely tough - depending on the weather. 10 Mile, 50k, 50 Mile, and 100 Mile options. Generous cutoff times provide ample opportunity for those mentally strong enough to embrace the challenge. Those in the 100 miler, you can pick up a pacer at the start of the 6th lap, mile 50. You can use multiple pacers, but each has to complete one 10 mile loop with you. Hot dogs, brats, donuts, bagels, pizza, M&M's and other aid station fair provided. Gobble Gobble! Shirt included. Finishers award included. Pain... depends on how you train! Aid station at mile 5 and mile 10 start/ finish area. Start is The Equestrian Center at Jester Park, Granger, Iowa. AID STATIONS/ Drop bags: The course is shaped like a lollipop and will have an aid station at the start line as well as mile 5.6., the Discovery Pond Aid Station. Drop bags will only be allowed at the Equestrian Center aid station/ start-finish line. Course markings: The course is clearly marked with green flags/flagging tape and green chalk on the ground when outbound and orange flags and orange chalk markings on the ground coming back. Flags will be on your right. There will also be approximately 8-10 small LED lights clipped to tree limbs every mile as confidence markers. At a couple of intersections, follow the chalk lines – green going out, orange coming back. If you see both green and orange flags it is two way traffic, you are on course The Course: As previously mentioned, the course is lollipopish shaped which means at certain sections there will be runners coming and going on the trail. Please be courteous to one another. We will start and finish at the Equestrian Center. The course begins down a trail with wood fencing on both sides. It then winds down to the bottoms before eventually climbing back up towards the campgrounds and eventually Discovery Pond. After circumventing Discovery Pond, you will hit the mile 5.7/ 6.3 aid station for the second time. From that point forward, follow the orange markings. On the right day it can be a very fast course. Bathrooms: There are restrooms in the Equestrian Center, an outdoor latrine at mile 3.5, and modern restrooms at the 5.7 aid station. Hiking Poles: You probably won’t need them, but it is fine if you do. The goal here is to finish so pace yourself and use the sticks if you need them. Timing: Timing will be done using Ultrasignup Timing. Results will be posted as runners enter the aid station. Food: We will do our best to supply the aid stations with a variety of common aid station food as well as some brats, hot dogs, Pizza and donuts and potatoes and ramen noodles in the evening. Start/ Finish will be full service with loads of options. Mile 5.5 will be more limited but stocked. There will be GU products available and some type of sports drink (either GU Roctane or Gatorade Orange). There will also be some sport drink tabs you can use. To be fail-safe, stock your drop bags with your favorite foods just to make sure your own personal nutritional needs are taken care of. Emergency Contact information: If you are out on the course and have an emergency, call or text Shannon (see your email for #). Remember, you are never more than 5 miles from an aid station. Finally, and this is especially true for 50 and 100 milers, have a backup headlamp and some extra batteries. Pace yourself it is a long race and the goal ultimately is to finish. Don’t burn yourself out early. This course can wear you down over time, but it is very runnable and doable. You can do this, be brave, and make it happen! Lodging: There are a number of hotels in the area which provide lodging. |
